Abstract

In this paper, we doped Na + ions with several concentrations into CaF2 to enhance radiophotoluminescence (RPL) properties due to (F2+)A centers. After X-ray irradiation, all Na-doped CaF2 samples showed photoluminescence (PL) at 750 nm under the excitations at 390 and 610 nm. The PL decay time constant of (F2+)A centers was 21–23 ns. The PL intensity of Na-doped CaF2 samples was higher than that of undoped CaF2, and it became maximum in the Na-concentration of 0.05%. The 0.5 and 1% Na-doped CaF2 samples also showed PL at 950 nm due to F3-type centers with the decay time constant of 9 ns. The activation energy of (F2+)A centers was 0.96 eV. The lower detection limit of the 0.5% Na-doped CaF2 sample as the RPL dosimeter was at least 0.01 mGy and the RPL response monotonically increased in the dose range from 0.01 to 10000 mGy.
