Abstract

This paper discusses some preliminary results from the (n,p) experiments performed with the new TRIUMF nucleon charge-exchange facility. Data are presented for the 26Mg(n,p), 54Fe(n,p), 90Zr(n,p), and 208Pb(n,p) reactions. For 26Mg and 54Fe, the Gamow–Teller (GT) strength is apparently quenched to the same extent in (n,p) as in (p,n) reactions. For 90Zr and 208Pb, little GT strength is observed in the (n,p) reaction, but 208Pb(n,p) exhibits a strong spin-dipole peak. Some future (n,p) experiments at TRIUMF are briefly mentioned.
