Abstract

Nissol【○!R】 is a new type of low toxic fluorine miticide, chemically named N-methyl-N-(1-naphthyl)-fluoro-acetamide, developed by Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. It has been favorably recieved by users ever since its appearance on the market because of its many superior features such as effectiveness against citrus rust mites, arrow hiead scale and apple aphides, low toxicity, and high convenience that it can be mixed with Bordeaux mixture. The present experiments were planned to find out effective antidotes against this economic poison. 1. Biological and toxicological mechanisms of Nissol【○!R】 were much similar to those of monofluoro-acetamide. The most effective antidote in small animals was acetamide, reducing the death rate down to one-sixth in mice, zero in rats and guinea pigs. Monoacetin and ethanol, which are widely approved as best remedies against monofluoroacetamide poisoning, were somewhat inferior to acetamide. Glucose was much effective to large animals, such as rabbit, cat, dog, and monkey. 2. Other drugs, which reduced the death rate or prolonged the survival period, were as follow; (1) in mice-paniltin, thiola, glutathion, vitamins B1, B6, C, and procainamide, (2) in rats-GABA, GOBA, GABOB, monacetin, ethanol, galactose, paniltin, glutathion, orotic acid, vitamins B6, C, thiola, vitacamphor, Na-arsenate, and EDTA-2 Na. 3. GABA, GOBA, GABOB, chlorpromazine, mephenesin, and Na-pentobarbitrate effectively inhibited the convulsion but only two of these, GABA and GABOB, improved the prolongation of survival period. 4. The combined adiministration of acetamide, GABA, and B6 showed the best result, reducing the death rate down to zero. The combination of acetamide, monacetin, vitamin B6, and GABA (GABOB or GOBA) was also excellent, reducing the rate down to one half. From the results above mentioned, it may be concluded that the method of treatment will be the combination of glucose with acetamide, monacetin or ethanol as acetate-donor, orotic acid (glutathion, paniltin, vitamin B6, or thiola) for detoxication procainamide against the ventricular fibrillation and GABA (GABOB, GOBA or chlorpromazine) as antispasmodica.
