Abstract
A feminist narrative pastoral perspective on the marriage formularies of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Church
 
 This article is the second which focuses on the metaphor “the church as bride”. Its aim is to demystify this metaphor’s use in the marriage formulary of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Church of Africa from the perspective of an ideological-critical analysis of the formulary. This formulary is specifically based on Ephesians 5:21-33 and Hosea 1 and 2 as “intertext”. In light of a narrative pastoral model within the context of feminist hermeneutics the article argues that the patriarchal ideology behind the metaphor constitutes the wording of the formulary and that this ideology contributes to negative experiences of women in marriage relationships.

Summary
In ons vorige artikel oor die metafoor “die kerk as bruid” in Efesiërs 5:21-33 en dié se “interteks” in Hosea 1 en 2 (Botha & Dreyer 2007) het ons ondersoek gedoen na die konteks, die bedoelde lesers van hierdie tekste en die ideologie daaragter. In die sirkel-model is God nie meer ’n God wat van bo af met mag en geweld oor mense regeer nie, maar Een wat in liefde tussen ons kom staan en ons deur Jesus se voorbeeld inspireer om as nuwe mense in Christus te lewe. Hierdie sirkel-model bring ’n ander (nuwe) manier van dink oor mag, en oor God. Vir pastorale teologie bring dit ook ’n nuwe manier waarop ’n persoon haarself verstaan in verhouding met haarself en in verhouding met ander, in verhouding met God. Die nuwe teologiese taal bring nuwe optrede tussen mense. Met behulp van die narratiewe pastorale model van Van der Schaaf & Dreyer (2004a, 2004b), aangevul met die pastorale teologie van Bons-Storm, kan vroue wat onderdanig gehou en tot slagoffers van geweld gemaak word deur die huweliksbevestigingsformulier, pastoraal begelei word om “beyond” hulle neerdrukkende verhaal te kom. Ons sal vasgevang bly binne ’n eerste orde verandering, waar ’n tweede orde verandering nodig is
