Abstract
1. 1. NEM inhibited short-circuit current and transepithelial difference when added to either the mucosal or serosal bathing solution. 2. 2. There is a specific, maximal number of sulfhydryl groups associated with active chloride absorption. 3. 3. The short-circuit current is carried by a net active chloride transfer from the mucosa to the serosa, in the presence and absence of NEM.
