Abstract

Abstract Results of a study of the use of tris(trifluoroethyl)phosphate for the alkylation of aromatic amines are reported. Tris(trifluoroethyl)phosphate is a satisfactory reagent for introducing a trifluoroethyl group into aromatic amines, except for those containing N-alkyl, hydroxyl, or alkoxyl substituents and for those containing strongly electron-withdrawing groups such as nitro and carboxyl.
