Abstract

The spring bedded ring model of radial tire has a non-linear spring constant, Kr, in the radial derection of the sidewall with respect to the radial deflection of belt end. Then, the detailed non-linearity of Kr should be considered accurately in the analysis on the contact pressure distribution under the vertical load, W.In this paper, we calculated the contact deformation of a radial tire belt in motion with constant velocities by increasing stepwisely the central contact angle with a constant increment of 2Δθ.This analysis yields the relationship between load and deflection of a radial tire in motion together with two dimensional contact pressure distribution. The predicted contact pressure distribution of radial tire having an appropriate value of damping coefficient of the tread rubber is shown in good agreement with experimental results.
