Abstract

This report intends to discuss how a needle thread tension affects mechanical properties of sewing thread made of tetoron (polyester) yarn.A breaking strength and a breaking elongation decrease, as a needle thread tension increases.A breaking strength of the sewing thread after sewing process lowers to 39% and a breaking elongation to 43.8%, comparing with the values before sewing process. For example, when a needle tension is 300350g, a breaking strength of a sewn thread is 700900 g and a breaking elongation is about 20%.The reason of these lowerings of mechanical properties is considered as a higher impact tension that is caused by higher needle thread tension during sewing process. It is also observed that a strain recovery of sewn thread is nearly 70% after washing and about 95% after 5 times of washing.
