Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a method for evaluating floors from a viewpoint of pain caused by pressing human body on floors. First, we made psychological scales on pain by means of a sensory test. Next, we considered relationships between the scales and several physical quantities on floor hardness and roughness, which were measured by our original measuring devices. Finally, we presented the suitable physical quantity (PI) which corresponded well to the psycholigical scales, with its measuring method and relative evaluation indexes, as the evaluation method of floors from a viewpoint of pain. PI is composed of three basic quantities, that is, the relative displacement (δ), penetration depth (D), and the scratch force (G) of floors.
