Abstract
Pleomorphic adenoma in the neck is extremely rare, and has not been reported in Japanese literature. This paper describes two cases of the pleomorphic adenoma in the neck. Case 1: a 56-year-old woman had a painless mass in the right upper neck, located about 3cm. below the mandible on the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and lateral to the internal carotid artery. Case 2: an 81-year-old woman had a painless mass in the left upper neck, located beneath the sternocleidomastoid muscle, and slightly posterior, at the angle of the mandible and mastoid process.Surgical treatment was performed on both patients, and histological findings showed pleomor-phic adenoma. Only 19 cases of pleomorphic adenoma in the neck have been reported up to date. In this paper, etiology, age, sex, location of the tumors, clinical symptoms and treatment modalities were discussed.
