Abstract

Frankliniella cephalica (Crawford), a neotropic species, is newly recorded from flowers of Bidens pilosa L. and Ipomoea batatas (L.) in Ryukyu Is., Southwest Japan. Previously, only four species of the genus Frankliniella Karny have been reported in Japan. F. cephalica can be easily distinguished from other members of this genus in Japan by an antennal segment II produced dorsally with two stout setae and a pedicel of segment III with a pronounced sharp-edged subbasal ring.
