Abstract

In diagnosing vestibular disease, it is necessary to analyse nystagmus. However, it is difficult to record nystagmus during attacks of vertigo because of technical problems. In this paper, we introduced a “portable” Electronystagmography apparatus (NYSTAGMAN), developed by HORTMANN Company, and showed its clinical usefulness. The system consists of two parts, a dig ital recorder for ENG and special goggles with built-in electrodes. We observed cases of vertigo in the acute stage, and found the device to be useful in about 80%of cases. In conclusion, the device makes ENG recording possible anywhere, at anytime, and for anyone.
