Abstract

Surface films formed during AC etching of aluminum in HCl were stripped from the substrate in Br2/methanol solution and examined by TEM. The granular nature of the film, which was described by Thompson and Wood (1978), was more clearly observed. The film structure seems to be a replication of progressive etch-pits produced in the subsurface.
