Abstract

Local and systemic therapeutic modalities for metastatic malignant melanomas were described. Surgical operation of metastatic skin or other lesions, hyperthermic isolated limb perfusion, radiation with local hyperthermia, local injection or intra-arterial administration of chemotherapeutic agents or cytokines, and local absolute ethanol injection are being carried out in our department for the locoregional treat-ments of metastatic malignant melanomas. As the systemic therapeutic regimen, combinations of various chemotherapeutic agents such as DAV (dacarbazine, ACNU, vincristine) or CDV (cisplatin, dacarvazine, vindesine) are adopted to use in our department. Tamoxifen, an antagonist of estrogen at the estrogen receptor site, has been found to exert synergistic effects with a combination of cisplation for melanomas in advanced stage. Combinations of cytokines (α or γ interferon, interleukin 2) with chemotherapeutic agents for metastatic melanomas are now being investigated worldwide.
