Abstract

A new degassing method practically applicable for molten aluminum is proposed, in which a mullite exhaust tube connected to a vacuum pump is inserted in molten aluminum. The gas in the melt diffuses through the tube wall to attain the equilibrium of partial pressures in the melt and in the tube. The gas volume in molten aluminum at 750°C remelted after solidification in a furnace effectively reduces down to about 0.1cc/100g at S. T. P. This method has nearly the same degassing efficiency as that of vacuum degassing method.
