Abstract

A new algorithm for signal processing to improve the hearing ability of hearing aid users under noisy circumstances is proposed.In the auditory system, the sound directions are detected precisely by analyzing two kinds of information; 1) the interaural time difference and 2) the interaural sound pressure difference. Using a personal computer, acoustic signals were analyzed according to an algorithm similar to that of the auditory system. The sound coming from the optional direction could be readily detected. If this algorithm is applied to the electric circuits of hearing aids, the user's hearing ability under noisy circumstances could be improved greatly.
