Abstract

We examined and treated a 57-year-old male with Behcet's disease with recurrent pharyngo-laryngeal bleeding. The physical examination revealed swelling of the larynx. Under flexible laryngeal fiberscopy, the aryepiglottic fold and arytenoid were seen to be swollen and covered with hyperemic scar tissue. Six years ago, his left external carotid artery was ligated to stop the first episode of pharyngeal bleeding. This time the bleeding point was determined to be from branches of the superior thyroid artery. We administered 50mg of Cyclosporin-A and 1mg of Colchicine per day. This treatment was effective against aphthous lesions of the oral mucosa and of the skin. There were no complications due to these drugs.
