Abstract

The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) works as a shock absorber at the base of the spine. Repeated movements and/or accidental minor subluxation of the joint could cause a functional disorder known as SIJ dysfunction. Patients experience pain around the lumbogluteal and lower extremity areas due to SIJ dysfunction. SIJ pain is often misdiagnosed owing to a lack of specific imaging. However, physical signs of SIJ dysfunction are specific, and a definitive diagnosis can be made using SIJ injections. Precise diagnosis and treatment of SIJ dysfunction are important because patients with severe SIJ conditions often report limited sitting tolerance on a chair as well as walking disability.
