Abstract

Of 6, 427 cattle received at the Buzen Municipal Abattoir over a period of 3 years, 262 (4.08%) had nodular lesions in the intestinal mucosa. The incidence increased year by year. It was signiflcantly higher in Holsteins than in Japanese indigenous cattle. It was rather high in cows and older cattle. Most nodules were 1-5mm in diameter and prevalent in jejunum and ileum.Nodules exhibited tissue necrosis, infiltration of small round cells, appearance of foreign-body giant cells, and formation of granulation tissue. They contained stage IV larvae of Oesophagostomum radiatum.
