Abstract

In order to improve the thermal efficiency in internal combustion engine, reduction of mechanical friction loss has been performed with reduction of cooling loss and an exhaust loss. In mechanical losses, friction of a piston-cylinder system is large among an engine sliding parts. In order to evaluate the friction reduction with engines, in addition to the motoring method and the firing method which are performed using real multi-cylinder engines, the floating liner method using single cylinder engine has been performed. In research of a piston friction standard engine and its evaluation, the effect of running-in was investigated before obtaining final experimental data. In this report, the influence of running-in for the final friction values were reported.
