Abstract

Differentiation of germ tubes of wheat stem rust fungus into infection structures (appressorium, infection peg, substomatal vesicle, infection hyphae, haustorium) is a series of subtle and precisely timed orderly sequence of fungal development, which could be synchronized on leaf surface. Our recent work on the gene-specific RNA determining resistance in wheat to stem rust is partly based on the precise understanding of the behaviour of stem rust uredospores on wheat leaves.
