Abstract

Labial surfaces of maxillary central incisors were analyzed for the color and the acid resistance using as materials 130 teeth of dental students. Color of the teeth was measured intraorally with a fiber-colorimeter and was expressed with Adams' L, a, b. The enamel solubility in vivo was measured by applying a paper disk containing lactate buffer to the enamel surface. A weak but significant correlation between the enamel solubility and Adams' b values was found (r=0.314). This is supportive evidence for the clinical view that yellowish teeth are caries-resistant.
