Abstract
There are many reports of various tumors in the retroperitoneal cavity, and the description of retroperitoneal lipoma by Morgani (1761) may be the first one in this disease group. In 1829 Lobstein first proposed a disease “retroperitoneal tumor”, which generates at retroperitoneal wall from diaphragma to linea cruciata and which is independent to various organs existing at retroperitoneal region. In this report, the experience of a very large dermoidcyst which belongs to the benign tumor in retroperitoneal cavity is descibed with the references on it.According to the recent statistical observation on 533 cases of retroperitoneal tumor in Europe and United State, the benign tumor is only 15-20% while a majority of them is malignant, and according to the observation in Memorial Cancer Center for 96 years, the ratio of the retroperitoneal tumor to the general tumor is 120: 6000.Next, the retroperitoneal teratoma is relatively rare; for example, according to the Willis's report of 82 cases, the teratoma generated at the retroperitoneal region is only 3 cases (3.7%).A case of dermoidcyst which is a relatively rare postperitoneal benign tumor has been summarily reported.(1) The retroperitoneal tumor in a thirty-year-old woman.(2) The secondary swelling of kidney due to pressure and the operative extraction of retroperitoneal dermoidcyst of about 6kg.3) The references on the general postperitoneal tumors were statistically investigated.
