Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to propose the method of reliability evaluation of framed structures with failure modes using the first order second moment method. It is required to calculate the joint occurrence probability of the multiple failure events in the reliability evaluation of steel frames, then we encounter difficulties when we try to compute it, because of including multi-integral expression in it. This paper develops the first order second moment method formulating the probability density function of the minimum value between random variables that express the resistance of each failure mode for main external load, instead of computing it and describes the evaluation of the most likely failure point of each failure mode. The results by the proposed method show comparatively good agreement in comparison with those by Monte Carlo simulation.
