Abstract

This paper focuses on the irrigation systems necessary for conserving the rice terraces and investigates Kurumeki-no-tanada in Hikisa-chou,Hamamatsu,Shizuoka to clarify the irrigation facilities and their operation and maintenance. First, we survey irrigation channels system and record of their locates on a map. It also presents some results concerning the relation between the irrigation systems and their operation. Second, we classify water rights on irrigation facilities. Finally, we consider some arrangements for sustainable conservation on these rice terraces. As a result of the investigation, it was concluded that 1.We analyzed relationship of the agreements, related the water management system for irrigation, established among several cultivators, the directions of water’s current and the point where irrigation channels converge. And the irrigation system is broadly separated into7 systems. 2. The rule on intake composed of three water rights on irrigation facilities, 1) the right for taking in water directly from irrigation channel, 2) the permission for using water priority from them, 3) the permission for getting water near them.
