Abstract

We report a case of angiosarcoma on the left frontal scalp successfully treated with intra-arterial and peri-lesional injection of recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) followed by the surgical excision and postoperative irradiation. Histological examination revealed marked edema and inflammatory infiltrates associated partial destruction of the tumor. Immunohistological analysis demonstrated a considerable number of infiltrating cells expressing perforin, suggesting the local induction of functionally active cytotoxic lymphocytes by rIL-2. He has no evidence of local reccurence or metastasis at 18 months after the treatment.
