Abstract

Small cell carcinoma is an extremely rare tumor in the parotid gland. An 82-year-old man visited the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Tokai University Hospital with a mass in the left parotid region. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed, and a preoperative diagnosis was made of malignant parotid tumor. Subtotal resection of the left parotid gland and radical neck dissection were performed.Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of small cell carcinoma, and neuroendocrine granules were demonstrated by electronmicroscopy.
