Abstract
Since the oil crisis, the marine boiler engineers have been engaged in the developments of various counter-measures and/or design improvements in order not only to cope with the degradation and diversification of fuel oil, but also to respond the demands for labor-saving, fuel-saving and space-saving. These developments could have changed the technical features of marine boilers compared with those of the boilers in 1970's. This report therefore surveys the structural features and analyzes the actual situation of design practice of marine auxiliary boilers focusing on the combustion systems. The data and informations of auxiliary boilers have been collected with the kind cooperation of the boiler makers. This survey would be helpful for the new task, which is to develop the countermeasures to cut out the discharge of air pollutant such as NOx, SOx from the boilers.
