Abstract

The effects on wire mark due to unevenness of the surface structure of a paper making wire, dewatering time and couching during dehydration through the network of the paper making wire were investigated. It was found that there were voids of 200 μm in depth on the monofilament plastic double layer fabric, as warp filaments are continuous from the top to the bottom side of the wire. And unevenness of the surface of handsheets prepared by the above fabric was measured using the stereo scanning electron microscopy, which showed such unevenness had approximately same pitches as knakles and voids on the fabric had. Moreover, it was observed that unevenness on the wire side of wet web was greater in case of a short dewatering time compared to a long time and couching enhanced the degree of unevenness.
