Abstract
Different protective coatings were applied instead of zinc galvanized to 16 power transmission towers and steel structures at the Shiobara 600kV Laboratory of the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry in 1961.The types of the coatings were phthalic, alkyd, phenolic, vinyl chloride and epoxy resins, zinc rich paint, etc. At these coatings, three kinds of preparations have been used: sand blasting, phosphoric acid pickling or non-treatment. Some specimens have been set for exposure at the same place at the time.At the inspection after one year, these coatings showed no defects except for some coatings prepared with sand blasting.
