Abstract

The strain distribution is measured in column of two wood frame constructions subjected to a horizontal shear load by means of strain gauge method. One of construction specimens is a wood frame with a knee brace the other one is with a wall panel in a transom. The results are as follows: 1. The rupture strain of column is about 4000 x 10^<-6>. 2. As the joint between column and sill has some of moment resistance, the maximum bending moment of column is decreased. 3. The frame with a wall panel is more similar to a rigid frame construction than the frame with a knee brace. 4. The estimation method proposed in this paper is useful for predicting the maximum bending moment of column of these types of wood frame under a horizontal shear load.
