Abstract

We successfully removed the epiglottic cysts of 13 cases with laryngomicrosurgical technique. The histopathological study revealed that the wall of the cyst consisted of squamous cell with subepithelial lymphoid tissue and suggested the possibility of branchial cyst. Although it is generally accepted that epiglottic cyst originated in branchial organs is very rare, 10 of 13 cases presented in this paper were supposed to be the branchial cyst of epiglottis with respect to clinical and histopathological findings. The pertinent literature about the branchial cyst is reviewed.
