Abstract

We report the statistical and pathological investigation of cases of laryngeal cancer with anterior commissure invasion examined at our infirmary between January 1982 and December 1991. In 44.3% of glottic cancer, anterior commissure invasion was observed. The local recurrence rate of early glottic cancer with anterior commisure inva sion was 13.3% and without invasion was 11.4%. Consequently, no statistical significance between the two groups was found. However, the laryngeal preservation rate first therapy for early glottic cancer cases with invasion was 83.8% while without invasion 90.2%. On examination of serial sections of the resected larynx from laryngeal cancer cases accompanied by anterior commissure invasion, ulcer formation and thyroid cartilage invasion in the anterior portion were observed in the advanced cases.
