Abstract

Mechano-chemical reaction is a source of network structure variation. Chain scission followed by cross-linking occurs during mixing of compounds and during service of rubber goods due to deformation of the rubber parts. The mechano-chemical crosslinking during mixing is considered to be responsible for bound rubber formation of which variation causes variation of effective crosslink density among the compounds of the same formulation. The mechano-chemical reaction in cured rubber enhances oxidation of the rubber.
