Abstract

In recent years, the problem regarding the mooring in hard sea conditions has come to occupy an important position in various aspects. The experiment paying special attention to the characteristics of the fender is seldom found, although many reports have been given on this problem. Hence, the author made model rubber fenders having a similar characteristics of the actual fender, and has conducted basic experiments and theoretical calculations on the restraining forces of a moored vessel to dolphins. The summary of the results is shown below. i) In regular beam waves, the fender reaction force exceed the permitted force in 0.5 meter of wave height. ii) The fender reaction force is considerably small, comparing with the results of former experiments conducted by using springs as model fenders. The mooring experiment should be conducted by using model fender which has a similar characteristics of the actual fender.
