Abstract
An office computer system has been developed in our blood transfusion unit for the purpose of rationalization and simplification of the transfusion-related business. Getting hold of the detailed informations of each patient and of each blood bag, this system has enabled us to carry out transfusion business more safely, reliably and speedy, to prevent transfusion errors, and to practice the management of blood stocks accurately. The informations are arranged by patient's ID and blood bag's lot number. FACOM K-240 computer is used. Programs are designed using COBOL language, consisting of nine major business parts, i. e. acceptance, patient's informations, transfusion-related examinations, in-stock, out-stock, inventory of the blood for transfusion, management by the master, statistics taking and searching business. The original program has many check points at each important portion in order to make routin works more safely and accurately. The computer system works efficiently, meeting our expectations, especially as to the rationalization and simplification of the office works and the usage of the bar-code-reader, which can read the bar-code on the blood bag at a stroke, has remarkably elevated the efficacy of the system. In future, the connection with autoanalizers may bring about further completion of the system.
