Abstract

It is often said the recent trend in work pattern and life-style has resulted in physical inactivity for industrial workers, leading to an increase in the risk of cardiovascular diseases. A study was conducted to evaluate benefits of a corporate health and fitness program on employees' health. The present report describes benefits of long-term corporate fitness program on employees' health with the results of health examinations, consisting of health checkup and physical fitness test for male employees over 35 years old. From the study, the following results were obtained;1) The rate of workers with obesity, hypertriglyceridemia and hyperuricemia increased, especially among younger workers, during these ten years.2) It was revealed, however, that the rate of workers with hypercholesterolemia and abnormal liver function decreased among middle-aged workers.3) A decrease was witnessed in the number of hypertensive workers. And the level of physical fitness of examiners improved during these ten years.4) Despite the higher average age of employees, the rate of sick leave decreased. The above results show that the corporate fitness program have proven effective in improving employees' health and in having preventive effects against cardiovascular diseases.
