Abstract

Read output decay in longitudinal magnetic recording media due to magnetization decay and broadening of the transition length “a” was investigated. The “a” broadening was analytically calculated on the assumption that the magnetization in the medium always has an arctan distribution. The parameter “a” was calculated from the slope of the Mr distribution as a function of time, energy barrier ΔE and its distribution, temperature and magnetic properties of the media. The output decay for various recording densities was calculated by using the broadened “a”, , and its standard deviation. Consistent results are obtained when the reduction of due to the presence of demagnetizing fields within the bit is considered.
