Abstract
Focusing on soccer programs, we have developed a method of retrieving scenes by categorizing the motion of important objects like a goalkeeper. It is designed for an object-based video database system that manages information about video objects in video sequences. The scene retrieval consists of two steps for the comparison process : (I) categorizing the motion and (II) calculating the similarity in distance to a reference video example of the same category. Motion categorization is carried out by probabilistically learning the sequences of motion parameters for a goalkeeper. We have implemented this method in an object relational database system containing various soccer scenes and verified it.
