Abstract
Daido Steel has been producing NEOQUENCH*4 series magnets which are made from melt-spun Nd-Fe-B powder. NEOQUENCH-DR which is a radially oriented ring magnet shows high (BH)max exceeding 30MGOe. It can be magnetized to various patterns by changing magnetizing-fixture design and it contributes to high output, smooth rotation and downsizing of AC servo-motors. Making use of those characteristics, Daido Steel developed flat-high-output-torque DC brushless motors. The following are characteristics of the motor compared with conventional DC ferrite magnet motors. (1) About half the volume and weight. (2) About twice the output torque. (3) About 1.4 times the efficiency. Daido Steel and NABCO have developed the low cogging torque and high output torque motor for a power assisted wheelchair.
