Abstract
This paper considers an application of a reference governor (RG) to boost pressure control for automotive diesel engines. As a prediction model of the plant, we employ a piecewise affine (PWA) model to express nonlinearities of the plant. Each submodel of the PWA model is obtained through system identification under a steady-state condition that is determined by a constant engine speed and a constant fuelling. In order to obtain a modified reference such that the turbine rotation speed is constrained under its maximal limit, we propose an online RG algorithm based on the gradient descent method. Finally, we show the effectiveness of the present method through an experiment with a production vehicle.
