Abstract
Semi-rigid polyesters composed of distyrylbenzene analogues of 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole (TD) and oligoethylene oxide chains (m=3, 5, 6) were synthesized and their liquid crystalline (LC) and optical properties were evaluated. The resulting polyesters not only formed stable thermotropic LC smectic phase, but also fluoresced blue light in chloroform solutions and showed bluish-green fluorescent emission in solid states based on the TD analogue.
