Abstract

We propose the simulation method using the damage model and finite cover method(FCM) in order to predict the final state of the ductile material. In nowadays, the damage model, which is based on continuum damage mechanics has been devised to deal with the ductile behavior of materials and structures. Nevertheless, the damage model describe the phenomena, which involve discontinuities propagation as the immersed boundary. The FCM is one of the candidate for the implementation to generate the discontinuous surfaces. Therefore, using both of the damage model and FCM in order to describe the discontinuous surfaces clearly, because the damage model is not able to define the discontinuous surfaces. The threshold is defined as the damage value at the peak stress because the computation after the peak stress become unstable. Tensile testing simulation of ductile material is demonstrated, in which, the well-known damage model is used to define the material failure, the birth of discontinuity. Consequently, we confirm the propagation of discontinuities by using damage model and FCM.
