Abstract

A 73-year-old man was admitted to our hospital in August, 1993. Biopsy of left cervical lymph node revealed malignant lymphoma, diffuse, large cell type, and stage was IIA. About 18 months later, a 62-year-old wife complained of throat discomfort. She was diagnosed as having a diffuse large cell lymphoma, stage IIA, by the tonsillar tumor biopsy. Complete remission was achieved by combination chemotherapy and radiation therapy in both patients. The couple were born in Hyogo prefecture and lived together for about 41 years in the same place. Anti HTLV-1 antibody in both was negative, and no consanguinity existed. Immunohistological examination revealed B-cell nature and EBER-in situ hybridization was negative in both patients. There have been few reports of malignant lymphoma in husband and wife. In this paper, we report interesting cases having the same histology and derived from B cells. It needs an accumulation of case reports to elucidate the pathogenesis of simulutaneous occurring of lymphomas in married couples.
