Abstract

A recently developed austenitic high nitrogen stainless steel DSN9 (Fe-23Cr-10Ni-6Mn-2Mo-0.5N)can be melted through the conventional AF-AOD process. The tensile strength of DSN9 at room temperature is higher than a duplex stainless steel SUS329J1L . It also has higher tensile strength than a heat resistant steel SUS310S at elevated temperatures. Its creep rupture strength at 873K is close to a heat resistant steel SUH660. Its corrosion resistance is superior to a duplex stainless steel SUS329J1L and close to an austenitic super stainless steel SUS836L. Moreover, DSN9 possesses the excellent high temperature oxidation resistance equivalent to SUS310S. And besides it shows the sufficient cold workability. DSN9, therefore, carries the great potential not only as a corrosion resistant but also as a heat resistant steel.
