Abstract

We describe a rare case of laryngeal chondrosarcoma. A 55-year-old man with a right cervical mass was found in computed tomography (CT) to have an expansive lesion projecting from cricoid cartilage. Cytology showed round or polygonal cells with slight nuclear atypia dispersed in loose aggregates against an amorphous cartilaginous background. Histological examination of the surgical specimen showed proliferation of neoplastic chondrocytes with mild atypia forming a chondroid matrix. Cytological findings from aspiration specimens were helpful in preoperative diagnosis.
