Abstract

In this experiment, the studies have been carried out on porous sandstones or coals. The ultrasonic velocities of these rocks were affected by underground circumstances as high confining pressure, temperature, and wetness. In our studies, these factors were invesitigated as well as sonic velocities. These results were suggested the followings.(1) The formula showed by Wyllie, Gregory might be corrected to the following formula where a=corrective value in Wyllie's formula 1/VM=aφ/VF+1-φ/VR where a=corrective value in Wyllie's formula(2) The sonic velocities of rocks have examined on the effect of water and other liquids in pore of specimens. The result was showed that the velocity of speimen with liquid paraffin was comparatively larger than water and others.(3) The effect of compression was dicussed. In this results, the velocitie of parallel direction to axial stress increased greatly with compression in uncosolidated sandstone. Otherwise, the velocities of normal direction of axial stress were not almost varied or decreased a little with compression.
