Abstract

This is a report on 23 cases (24 joints) of ankle arthroscopy performed between July, 1988 and May, 1993. Patients ranged in age from 13 to 53 years, with a mean of 28.5 years. Eight of these patients had anterior talofibular ligament injury (4 acute cases and 4 with old injuries), five had old avulsion fractures of the lateral malleolus, three had osteoarthritis, three had a free body, two had arthritis, one had an old avulsion fracture of the medial malleolus and one had osteochondritis dissecans of the talus. Ankle arthroscopy is valuable in diagnosis and treatment of injuries or disease of the ankle joint. We report the indications for ankle arthroscopy and our arthroscopic technique.
