Abstract

We report dislocation of the bilateral patella in a patient with pseudothantoma elasticum. A forty-two-year-old woman presented a history of reccurrent dislocation of the patella since she was a child. Radiographs demonstrated lateralization and tilting of the patella. The skin of the neck, upper limb, and the inguinal areas was loose, coarse, and yellowish in color. Retinal showed angioid streaks which is the most common change in pseudothantoma elasticum. We performed both proximal and distal realignment of the patella. Pseudothantoma elasticum is rare, soon in hyperelasticity syndromes, and is characterized by elastotic degeneration. It is rarely accompanied by general joint laxity, and there has been no report of dislocation of the patella complicating pseudothantoma elasticum. Possible association of the dislocation of the patella with pseudothantoma elasticum has been suggested.
