Abstract
Male Wistar rats underwent colostomy with partial colectomy. Five groups of rats were studied: (1) sham-operated, (2) 30% colectomy, (3) 50% colectomy, (4) 70% colectomy and (5) 90% colectomy. Growth rate, food intake and gastrointestinal transit time were examined. Growth rate and food intake were decreased in the 90% colectomy group. Food transit time in the proximal and distal colon took longer than in the middle colon.
